General Policies
Choosing a Class
The age recommendation outlines for Kindermusik classes have been carefully constructed to best group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way. Therefore it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the semester for a class in which you are enrolling. If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, I will be happy to discuss your child's needs and to work with you to place him/her in the class best suited for him/her.
Enrollment Confirmation
A registration form and deposit must be received before enrollment can be confirmed. You will receive a phone call, email or mailed notice within two weeks to confirm your registration.
Register Any Time, but Early is Best
Class sizes are limited, but you are welcome to join classes at any time. Registering early does help ensure that you get your first choice, and that I have your child's materials for you at your first class. If you enroll after the session begins, I will pro-rate tuition.
Making the Most of Your Kindermusik Experience
Plan to arrive about 5 minutes early for class. Arriving a little early allows the child to settle into the musical environment as they enjoy exploring instruments, reading books, or listening to music.
In order not to distract other children in the class, I do request that toys, cups, bottles and pacifiers be kept out of sight in the classroom, and that snacks be finished prior to class. Be sure to dress comfortably.
Enjoy this time with your child. Encourage your child to participate at their own level. Every child will process differently in class. It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. Don't be discouraged--what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class. The enjoyment level is more important than performance at this point.
It is fun to visit with other parents during class time, but please remember that your main role is to be an active, focused, enthusiastic participant in the class activities with your child. Your child will model your actions and focus more fully as well.
Due to limited class size and the goal of one-to-one parent/child interaction, I ask that those enrolled in Village and Our Time classes make arrangements for siblings during weekly class times. An exception can be made when the sibling is young enough to be content in a car carrier, or stroller. Please let me know by calling or emailing if you would like to make arrangements at the studio for sibling care (at a cost of $5 per child during the class session).
If your child becomes disruptive in class, I ask that you step out of the classroom for a moment to help calm and refocus her/him.
To benefit greatly from the Kindermusik experience, please make active use of your At Home Materials. Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week makes all the difference in a child's comfort and participation in the classroom.
Classes will be made up in the event of teacher illness or inclement weather. You will be notified for the scheduled make-up day.
